"HOW TO" Guide: An overview of the Top Performer Journal

A complete overview of the Top Performer Journal; including examples of how to fill it in to make the most of your Journal

I can't find the time to complete my journal, what should I do?

The journal is designed to help you manage your time more effectively so the mere act of filling it in will actually help save you time in the long run! Here's a few tips on forming the habit of filling in your journal:

  1. Prepare the night before. Lay out your journal and pen ready and open on your desk/ kitchen table so you see it first thing. Some people even fill it in the evening before, so they are prepped for the next day.
  2. Fill it in at the same time every day. Do it every morning at breakfast with your coffee/ at your desk before you look at your computer/ instead of your morning Facebook. Consistency is key.
  3. Do it in 2 minutes. Don’t faff around. It doesn’t have to be perfect it just has to be done. Do it in 2 minutes and thank yourself all day.
  4. Plan your week on Sunday. Get into the habit of taking some time on Sunday to fill in your end of week summary, read over the Top Tip for the week and plan for the week ahead. This will mean you can hit the ground running on Monday morning.

For more info see our morning routine blog.

My boss hasn't given me my goals yet, can I start the journal?

Although not the most ideal situation, you can still start using the Journal and reaping the benefits of improved focus. Start on p24 with the Big Picture Plan #3 (Morning Routine) and then move straight into the Journal. You will have to estimate your weekly revenue goals for now. Once you receive your goal, you can go back to complete the missed bits.

My SALES goals are set yearly; how can I incorporate this into the journal?

Work out how much revenue you have to bring in over the next 13 weeks to put you in the best position to hit your yearly goal. Focus on this figure as your given revenue goal.

I've received my journal half way through the quarter. Should I wait until the new quarter starts before I start it?

The journal is not dated so you can start any time. There is space to work on more than one goal (p16-23)  and set your own deadlines, so it does not matter when you start.

I've received my journal and I've only got a few weeks until I get my new goals. Should I start now or wait?

As above; you can start any time. However, if you would prefer to wait and start fresh with your new goals, you can download and use our weekly printouts in the interim. Find them on the Be Inspired page of the Top Performer Co.

I have a holiday, how do I use the journal?

The journal is undated so you can pick it up and continue it even if you have had a week of two off. Just ensure you adjust your weekly revenue goals; if you have missed a few weeks of earning you may need to set your weekly goals slightly higher going forwards.

SHOULD I use THE JOURNAL at the weekend?

The journal has 5 daily planner pages to correspond to the 5 working days in the week. Take the weekend to recharge your batteries and do something fun! We do recommend taking some time on Sunday to fill in your end of week summaries, read through the Top Tip and plan for the week ahead so you can hit the ground running on Monday morning.

Some bits aren't relevant to me, what should I do?

If something in the journal isn't phrased quite right for your job role, feel free to change the wording to make it more relevant to you. If there's a bit that just isn't right and you'd like to give us feedback on how we can improve the content/ design, please send us an email: hello@wearecreativemind.com.

I forgot to fill in a few days and there are blank pages, what should I do?

Remember to fill it in every day from now on :)

Seriously though, we understand. Sometimes you forget, sometimes you have a day or a week on holiday. There will be blank pages from time to time. The most important thing is you pick the journal up and carry on. The whole journal is undated so you can write whatever day/month in it you like. Make it your own and make it work for you.

We love hearing from you. Feel free to reach out to us with your questions and feedback.
